Xbox One

It seems a lifetime ago since the Xbox One was announced, and today I finally took delivery of my very own next generation console. The past six months have been a very interesting for gamers, seeing the Microsoft change their approach multiple times in response to feedback from the gaming community, and now we get to see if it was all worth it. So first the hardware, the Xbox One itself is a heavy beast, and rather chunky too, noticeably heavier than the Xbox 360. The power supply is also a massive brick, again noticeably larger than the 360s, … Continue reading Xbox One

Apple iMac (Late 2013 Model)

I’ve had my current iMac now for a good fours years and it’s still going strong, however after catching a glimpse of the newer thinner model in the Apple store, I decided it was time to upgrade. One of the deciding factors was that back in 2009 when I made the switch to Mac, games weren’t really a thing, and I planned to stick to the consoles for my gaming needs. Over the years, steam has come to the Mac, and with the SteamOS being Linux based, the assumption is, if developers are developing for Linux, a Mac port … Continue reading Apple iMac (Late 2013 Model)

Apple iPad Air

My old trusty iPad 2 was starting to get a little long in the tooth. It was fine for browsing and most apps, but compared to C’s iPad 4, it was noticeably slower, and the lack or retina screen made me want to upgrade. Due to the ‘No New Shiny for a Year Challenge‘ I wasn’t able to pick up an iPad 4 when C did, so I’ve been looking in envy for the last 12 months. So the October Apple media event happened, and as expected a higher specced version of the iPad was announce, and I was instantly … Continue reading Apple iPad Air

Pioneer VSX922 AV receiver

As mentioned in the Pioneer S-21W Subwoofer post, I’ve now picked up my new AV Amplifier, to replace my rather ill Onkyo SR606. I’m still quite surprised how technology has moved on in the last couple of years. In 2010 when I bought my Onkyo amp, I remember finding it quite difficult to find one with TrueHD for an affordable price, now it seems like you can pick one up for around the £200 mark. As I didn’t want to spend a lot, (as I’m pretty sure the 4K TV’s will start to come down in price over the … Continue reading Pioneer VSX922 AV receiver

Pioneer S21W Subwoofer

First of all, it’s been a while, I’ve (up until now) been very strong at ignoring temptation as I’ve been sticking to the ‘No New Shiny for a Year Challenge‘. This weekend I unfortunately had a moment of weakness, or one could say, I was a drunken opportunity. So, my Onkyo TX-SR606 amplifier has done me proud over the years, but I’ve been hit with a know HDMI board fault. It’s been repaired once, but it’s on its way out again, so decided it’s time to replace it. Now first of all, I decided to replace this with a lot cheaper model … Continue reading Pioneer S21W Subwoofer

Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro XL

As you may remember, I bought the red Nintendo 3DS XL back in August last year. I have to be honest, once the initial honeymoon period wore off, I rarely touched the device. Recently a couple of games that have come out which have peaked my interest, one of which is Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. As I’m currently half way through the Year of Shame challenge, I can’t buy the game, so instead I thought I’d download the demo to see what all the fuss is about. Although the game did look gorgeous, I personally found the control scheme a … Continue reading Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro XL

Samba Mobile, the no brainer.

Like most I’m always very sceptical about these ‘free data’ offers, well that was until I took the plunge and tried one. My ad based free data provider of choice was Samba, which you gain free mobile data for simply watching a few ads. Ok, so this is how it works, you initally pay for your SIM card (standard size of Micro Sim) or SIM card + Dongle, and that’s it. The SIM card is a one off charge of £5 (or £2.50 via the referral link), and the SIM Card and USB dongle is a one off charge of … Continue reading Samba Mobile, the no brainer.

Sony PlayStation Move Racing Wheel

As I’m currently taking part in my own personal ‘No Shiny’ 2013 Challenge , I’ve not bought anything for a couple of months. If anybody regualarly reads my blog, you’ll know that I’m a sucker for shiny things, so this challenge is hurting as much as, if not more than the Year of Shame Gaming Challenge So Christmas was around the corner, and C asked what I wanted from Santa, so I reeled a few thing of the list of gadgets that had peaked my interest over the past couple of months, and the Racing Wheel was one of them. I … Continue reading Sony PlayStation Move Racing Wheel

iPhone 5

Having been able to resist the iPhone 4S last year, I decided to take the plunge and get the iPhone 5. It seems Apple are releasing a ‘major design change’ version every 2 years, and just a tweaked version with only minor speed bumps and features, e.g….faster chip…Siri on the years in between. Now I know by now you’re sick of reading blogs about to iPhone 5, so I’ll try and keep this more focused on my personal feeling on upgrading from an iPhone 4. The most noticeable new feature is the screen, now I know they’ve only stretched it … Continue reading iPhone 5

D-Link DCS-932L Securicam Wireless N Home IP Network Camera with Infra Red

Along with the DCS-930L camera, I bought one of these too. The only difference I can see is the option for night vision mode, and it’s double the price. I configured this along side of the DCS-930L, and had the same ‘issues’, however this was mainly down to out of date Mac software. The configuration was almost idential apart from the fact I had the night vision option. This give you the option of Auto, manual, or you can set the times you want it to switch from night to day mode.  Essentially the 4 night vision LED’s fire up … Continue reading D-Link DCS-932L Securicam Wireless N Home IP Network Camera with Infra Red
