Xbox Live “Metro” Dashboard

Being a Software Tester and a Gamer, I obviously jumped at the chance to become a beta tester for the new Xbox Dashboard. Earlier this week I got the “Time for an update” message, and knew it was time to play. As always with the Xbox updates, it just worked, took very little time and before I knew it, I was presented with the new dash, and I have to say, Microsoft have really impressed me. So, what to expect when this goes live to the public ? First screen you get is, Download a profile, Create a profile, or … Continue reading Xbox Live “Metro” Dashboard

Philips Fidelio DS3020/05

I’ve been looking for some kind of portable iPhone dock for a while now. I currently have the ability to charge my phone in most rooms either by docking it in an alarm clock, or in the front of a TV, or just by putting it in the dock connected to my mac. The only problem with the ones I have is, a, they aren’t portable, and b, the sound quality isn’t that great. So….I was in Currys last night at this one caught my eye, as it had a sticker on the box saying “iPhone 4 Bumper compatible”. All … Continue reading Philips Fidelio DS3020/05

Huawei E585 MiFi Router

I’ve been toying with the idea of the MiFi device for a while (while since I moved from Nokia to iPhone and lost the ability to use the joikuspot software) I get the majority of my internet fix when out and about using my iPhone, however there are occasions when I’m away from home and could do with connecting my MacBook to the web, when I’m not anywhere near a useable wireless network. I had looked at paying for the tethering on my iPhone for these occasions, however both me and C would need to connect, which would mean setting … Continue reading Huawei E585 MiFi Router

Apple Airport Express

Like most people, I have multiple devices that require internet access, however I hate having to run cables. My main problem has always been the upstairs, downstairs divide. Not wanting to run a cable through the floorboards, I’ve tried multiple solutions from wireless access points, to the Powerline adapters . Now don’t get me wrong, the Powerline mains adapter does work ok, and it’s only very occasionally I get buffering, however I thought I’d give the Airport Express a try. I have multiple devices which use wireless n, and to be honest wasn’t really that impressed at the speed difference over … Continue reading Apple Airport Express

Mac Mini

“Dear Mr Jobs, When I said “Your work here was done”, in my previous post about my iPhone, I may have been telling porkies, as I still had a Windows machine in the house, however you’ll be glad to know, that I’ve done the right thing, and replaced it with a Mac Mini. Sorry for the porkie, and I am now 100% Apple. Your ever faithful disciple Darren.” As you can probably tell from the above, I’ve replaced my last remaining Windows machine with a Mac Mini (Really ? No sh1t Sherlock). To be honest I’ve been toying with the … Continue reading Mac Mini

The New and Improved Computer Room

As you may have read, last week we got a couple of shiny new iMacs.  We did however see this as an opportunity to re do the computer room. We’ve been living in this house for over 4 1/2 years now, and as with most people, the house just gets cluttered. When we first moved in, we both had a PC each, both with 17″ CRT monitors, as we’ve upgraded our main machines, we’ve then built up a “server” machine to host the media on, and to be a terminal for me to dial in to. In the last 4 1/2 years, … Continue reading The New and Improved Computer Room

FAIL !

Well, due to having 8 days of constant drinking, myself and C thought it would be a good idea to have some time off the beer, so we would be “normal” for when we went back to work. As per my last post, we bought the “Where in the movies”, and decided if it only gets 4.5 out of 10, then the only try way to test it, would be to get drunk, lol ! As we seemed to still have 8 cans on Magners Cider in the outside fridge, we decided to get a 10 pack of Bud, and … Continue reading FAIL !
